A mountain interior is more than four drywall walls. It is knotty pine paneling, exposed beams, tongue-and-groove ceilings, two-story great rooms and stairwells that demand real reach work — and the right primers so the wood does not bleed through. Top Painting paints all of it, cleanly and carefully, for cabins, full-time homes and vacation rentals across Big Bear.

How It Works

Our 6-step interior process.

Clean, low-disruption, and the same on every interior we paint.

1

Color consultation

We help you choose colors and finishes that flatter mountain light and your wood features.

2

Protect the space

We move heavy furniture, then mask and cover floors, fixtures and belongings.

3

Prep & patch

Wash, sand, fill dents and patch drywall so the surface is smooth and sound.

4

Prime

Stain-blocking primer on paneling, knots and bare wood so nothing bleeds through.

5

Paint

Two even, fully cut-in finish coats in durable, low-odor products.

6

Walk-through

We leave it spotless and review every room with you before we call it done.

Surfaces we paint

Walls & accent walls

The biggest visual change in any room — and an easy place to add character. We prep and coat walls for an even, durable finish, and add accent walls where they earn their keep.

  • Even, long-wearing wall finish
  • Bold accent walls that add depth
  • Scrubbable finishes for busy rentals

High reach

Ceilings & vaulted / high reach

Big Bear is full of vaulted ceilings and two-story walls. We bring the scaffolding, ladders and pole equipment to coat them safely and evenly.

  • Scaffolding & pole equipment for high reach
  • Tongue-and-groove ceilings cut in crisp
  • Two-story great rooms, no problem

Cabin character

Exposed beams

Exposed beams define a cabin interior. We paint them clean and modern or refresh the stain to bring back warm, natural wood — including stripping and grinding old paint back off.

Trim, baseboards & doors

Crisp trim is what separates a professional repaint from a DIY one. We prep, fill and coat every edge for a smooth, hard-wearing finish.

  • Baseboards, casings, window trim & doors
  • Smooth, hard-wearing finish
  • Damaged trim measured for replacement

Wood paneling refresh

Dark knotty-pine paneling makes rooms feel small and dated. We lighten or fully paint it to open a space up — without the knots ghosting back through.

  • Lighten or fully paint dark paneling
  • Stain-blocking primer stops bleed-through
  • Brightens dim, dated rooms

Hard to reach

Stairwells

Stairwells combine the two hardest parts of interior work: high reach and high-touch wear. We have the equipment and the right finishes for both.

  • Tall stairwell walls coated safely
  • Durable finishes for high-touch rails
  • Spindles & trim detailed

Smooth foundation

Drywall & wall repair

Paint only looks as good as the surface under it. Before we coat, we make the wall right.

  • Nail pops, dents & cracks patched
  • Minor drywall damage repaired
  • A smooth surface before any color

Is it time?

When to repaint your interior

Scuffs that won't wipe clean

Marks and hand-oil that no longer come off.

Fading or yellowing

Uneven sheen from sun and woodstove heat.

Peeling or cracking

Around bathrooms, kitchens and trim.

Dark, dated paneling

Or colors you have simply outgrown.

Sale, purchase or rental

Prepping to list, just bought, or refreshing an STR.

Honest pricing

What affects interior cost

Room count & size

Total wall and ceiling area to cover.

Ceiling height

Vaulted and two-story spaces need more setup. Industry estimates put interior work in the rough range of a few dollars per square foot, higher for tall or detailed spaces.

Prep & repair

Patching, sanding and priming raw or paneled wood.

Trim, doors & detail

More cut-in work means more labor.

Color changes

Dramatic shifts or covering dark wood take extra coats.

How we protect your home

We move the heavy items, mask windows, floors and belongings, and keep work areas sealed so you can stay in the home while we work. The full breakdown is on our Our Process page.

Common Questions

Straight answers.

How much does it cost to paint a 12×12 room?

A standard bedroom-sized room is one of the more affordable projects, but the real cost depends on ceiling height, prep, trim and how many colors are involved. As an industry estimate, a single 12×12 room often falls in the few-hundred-dollar range for walls, more with ceilings, trim and heavy prep. We confirm with a quick free walkthrough.

How do you reach high vaulted ceilings safely?

Big Bear great rooms are full of two-story walls and vaulted ceilings. We use the right scaffolding, ladders and pole equipment to reach them safely and coat them evenly — no missed spots, no shortcuts, fully insured.

Can you paint over wood paneling?

Yes. Knotty pine and cedar paneling can be lightened or fully painted, but it needs cleaning, light sanding and a quality stain-blocking primer first so tannins and knots do not bleed through. Prepping rustic wood is something we do constantly up here.

Do you move our furniture?

Yes — our crew moves the heavy items so you do not have to, then masks and protects everything that stays. You should not have to empty your home to get it painted.

Can you match our existing wall color?

Usually, yes. We can color-match an existing finish closely so a repair or an added room blends in, or help you pick a new palette that suits mountain light. Bring us a chip, a leftover can, or just point at the wall.
